Overview:

Day two of Operation VERITABLE found the 2nd Battalion of the Seaforth Highlanders pushing forward along the "Homer" axis, its junction with the lateral "Kranenburg-Hekkens" axis as their objective (codename BANANA). The two forward companies moved off at 1030 hours following a preliminary artillery concentration on the objective, each company supported by a troop of tanks. They reached report line BROOKE at 1200 hours, halfway to their objective, having faced light opposition in the form of mortar and small arms fire. Progress soon slowed as heavier German defensive positions were encountered, and mortar fire increased in intensity. LCOL Geordie Andrews, DSO now deployed A Company south of D Company, while B Company was kept in reserve.
