Overview:

With Combat Command B leading the way, the 2nd Armored Division had been trying to crack the West Wall for more than a week. Broken into three task forces, the division initially advanced against weak resistance until arriving at Apweiler. There, hidden anti-tank guns repulsed attack after attack for two days. Rather than trying yet another combined arms approach, CCB Commander Brigadier General Isaac D. White tasked the 406th Infantry Regiment with taking the town under the cover of an artillery barrage. Third, Battalion advanced closely behind the barrage and overwhelmed resistance. By 1445, the Americans held the town and prepared for the next day's advance.
