Overview:
The Soviet 5th Guards Tank Corps races south during the Kursk counteroffensive exploiting a 7 mile gap between the 4th Panzer Army and Armeeabteilung Kempf. On August 3rd, General Raus’ XI Corps rushes the 167th Infantry Division and 6th Panzer Division into the gap. The stop-gap German forces are smashed by the Soviet onslaught and fall back on Belgorod. Against Hitler’s orders, Belgorod is quickly evacuated of all available German units falling back south of the city to form a new defensive front along a series of hills fronting the Vezelka River. After an opening artillery and air bombardment, the Soviet guardsman stormed south across the Vezelka River to force open the Belgorod-Kharkov Highway.Attacker: Russian (Assault elements of the 5th Tank Corps)
