In one part of the line, they managed to capture a tourist hotel, which they rapidly fortified into a strongpoint. On a narrow finger of land which divided Lake Tolvajarvi from nearby Lake Hirvasjarvi—creating good fields of fire and long lines of sight. However, the hotel made such an excellent sally point for attacks on the Finnish left flank that the Finns could hardly leave the hotel in Soviet hands.
