Overview:

As the Japanese continued their advance up the Yangtse River during the Wuhan battle, the next strong resistance was encountered at Matan. This fortress was situated on the south bank in a narrow defile between the river and Lake Tienpohu. It included five forts, incorporated into a system of field fortifications, and formed the Chinese center of resistance at this point. On June 24, the Japanese landed several parties to clear the fortifications, under the cover of artillery from the gunboats on the river.
Attacker: Japanese (Elements of the 11th Sentai (Gunboat Flotilla), 3rd Fleet and of the Formosa Infantry Brigade)

2023-08-27(D) Jobbo Fett vs RootinPutin Japanese winA lacklustre defense, accurate white phosphorus, and many broken support weapons led to the eventual demise of the Chinese. Not much to say other than you should probably put wire on your pillboxes, unlike me. I think the SSRs are too punishing for the Chinese, you really need the Japanese to fail morale checks...
2015-10-09(D) Michael Rodgers vs Jim Wiseman GMD winAfter browsing my “to play” binder, we selected this scenario which features a Japanese attack on Chinese fortifications in 1938 on board LFT2. The Japanese need to eliminate or control four of five Chinese pillboxes at game end to win. The LFT2 board is a steep hill, up to level 5, with patches of grain (kunai) and open ground. I concentrated my defence on the Chinese left to take advantage of the woods that would be out of LOS of the Japanese. The Japanese took many losses working their way up the hill. I had placed wire on four of the pillboxes to slow down the Japanese and it worked. After five turns, they had three and were about to take a fourth. The pillbox on the Chinese right, however, was vulnerable to a counterattack that I staged. I was able to take it back to end any hope of a Japanese victory.
