Overview:

Late in August the Germans had managed to grab two bridgeheads across the Lojnja River near Bolotina. The Soviet 19th Army counterattacked these positions, and the 38th Rifle Division retook 2 square kilometers of the bridgehead. The Russians then dug-in around a brush-covered wooded area. The 7th Panzer Division sent Schützen-Regiment 7 and its attached Flammpanzers to root out this tough node of resistance.

2026-08-01(D) Grant Hewitt vs Lee Hyde Russian winI thoroughly enjoyed this scenario, probably aided by good dice on my behalf that helped me see off all but one of the AFVs in the first half of the game with the Russian anti-tank gun. My Russians were dispersed in the woods running through the center of the set-up area and held on just long enough to enable a final retreat away from the advancing Germans in turn 5. The game turned on my conscripts breaking some German units in the final Defensive Fire phase in German turn 6 that helped stave off the prospect of close combat and then smoke hindrance from a burning PzIII helped enough units to stay in good order after fire in the Advance Fire Phase. Great scenario with excellent re-playability options.

I felt that Maurizio really showed me how to counterattack despite the flame tanks etc
It started with a solid push and the AT guns being dispatch by the frontal atatck and a flank attack from behind but..
Maurizio took advantage of the weakness caused by a prolonged Melee and retook both guns and dispatched both tanks with inexperienced crews
Excellent to see such tactics even though I suffered the loss
