Overview:

The Wehrmacht made considerable progress on the first day of the war, having reached the outskirts of Czestochowa before having to pause due to stiffing Polish resistance. At noon the next day-following an intense but ineffective artillery barrage, the Germans advanced on the Lisiniec quarter of the city, but were halted, having lost 5 tanks in the interim. Similarly , the invaders lost numerous armored vehicles in an attack on the Czarny Las section of the city. These losses included three armored cars that fell victim to a single Polish soldier, most likely using the Wz.35 anti-tank rifle. Following these setbacks, the First Panzer Division launched a massive assault into the Kiedrzyn area, which was being defended by the increasingly outnumbered Polish 27th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, whose men employed any and all means at their disposal to keep Hitler's Panzertruppe at bay.
