Overview:
Located on Gran Sasso, one of Italy's tallest mountains, was Hotel Campo Imperatore that had become Benito Mussolini's temporary prison. After his "protective arrest," the Italian authorities continually moved the Duce from location to location. Finally, SS-Hauptsturmführer Otto Skorzeny located the Duce on Gran Sasso and was ordered by Adolf Hitler to attempt a rescue mission. It was determined that landing troops by glider would be the best method for conducting Operation EICHE (OAK).Attacker: German (SS) (SS-Jäger-Bataillon 502)
