Overview:
Although the Lapland War had commenced in September, very little actual fighting occurred. However, with the Germans destroying infrastructure and the Soviets pressuring the Finns to eject Germans from Northern Finland, the situation changed. The Finns were able to initiate an uprising in Tornio, and while the Germans' attention was focused there, conducted an amphibious operation on 1 October, landing troops at Ryotta, south of Tornio. The Finns landed 10 battalions of infantry, and the Germans organized a counterattack. Kampfgruppe Tornio consisted of II and III/Gebirgsjager Regiment 139, and Company 2, Panzer Battalion 211, which contained PZIIINs, and French Somua and Hotchkiss tanks.Attacker: German (Elements of Kampfgruppe Tornio)
