Overview:

Although the Lapland War had commenced in September, very little actual fighting occurred. However, with the Germans destroying infrastructure and the Soviets pressuring the Finns to eject Germans from Northern Finland, the situation changed. The Finns were able to initiate an uprising in Tornio, and while the Germans' attention was focused there, conducted an amphibious operation on 1 October, landing troops at Ryotta, south of Tornio. The Finns landed 10 battalions of infantry, and the Germans organized a counterattack. Kampfgruppe Tornio consisted of II and III/Gebirgsjager Regiment 139, and Company 2, Panzer Battalion 211, which contained PZIIINs, and French Somua and Hotchkiss tanks.

2025-07-18(A) Simon Staniforth vs IA German winIt’s 1944 but the tanks are mostly early war which makes for an interesting armour battle. I was expecting the relatively tough French armour to stand up well to the Finnish 45Ls but this proved not to be the case and the 75AT also took out a couple once it popped up. I got lucky when it then malfed when trying to pulverise my infantry. Plenty of infantry though for the Germans, much deployment and a steady advance across the board. I largely ignored the exit option (managed 8 VP) concentrating instead on taking the VP Locations and racking up CVP including prisoners. Whilst by SSR they do not count double, through not declaring NQ I was able to capture plenty of broken Finns contributing c15VP to the total by game end. The hill and only the Eastern most bridge captured. Looks a hard fight for the Finns particularly with no German CVP cap
