Overview:

The German assault on the mountainous island of Crete called for airborne landings in four separate areas. One objective of the first wave was the quick capture of Canea, the capital city. To clear the way for the landing of the main regiment, a company of glider-borne troops were given the task of landing west of the city on the Akrotiri Peninsula and neutralizing the British anti-aircraft positions located there.

2020-07-11(A) Shane Pask vs Zach Pask British winMy first glider scenario did not start well. 4 were shot down including my 2 MMG and a minor leader. However, my 10-2 and HMG landed on the wrong end of board 4 (His dummy target). My last leader died on turn 6 with only 1 gun down and scant hope of getting any more. I conceded.
2018-06-02(A) Louis Langdeau vs Lee M German winLee distributed his troops along the edges of the central board, and set up one of his 5/8" concealment markers on board 6, the other two on board 4. I decided to play it safe and deployed a third of my forces to each board. I should have played it risky, since Lee had set up both AA sections on board 4, effectively removing a third of my forces from play for the first half of the game. Lee's AA fire was reasonably effective, with two of my gliders going down, one of which held a 9-2, 838, and a DC. I would come to miss those later. I got pretty lucky on my placement, since two of the gliders came down directly adjacent to the AA guns. Lee also malfed one of them, so by the end of British turn 1, I was over halfway to my victory conditions. Things swiftly began to go bad for me after that. I made a big push with my squads, but Lee's fire was absolutely murderous, and shredded my advancing troops. Over the next few turns, my forces on board 4 got whittled away to essentially nothing. I got lucky again, with Lee's malfed gun breaking permanently on turn 5 or 6. Still, by turn 6 I was well into hail mary territory. Lee redeployed all of his troops around the northernmost gun on board four, and my section from board 6 finally made it's way over the hills to sweep down from the north. Another murderous round of fire tore up a good amount of the troops I had left there, and turn 8 ended with me having two good order 548s with LMGs, a 10-2, and a conscript squad that had broken free of guards and re-armed themselves. On the last British turn, I had two shots I could make against the fourth AA gun. The conscripts skunked their shot with an 11, but despite +4 in mods, my last standing 548 rolled a 3 to cause an NMC vs the gun crew. Lee rolled a 9, and that was the game. Great scenario! I'm leaving it on my to-play list, because I feel like it could really hold up to more play.
