Overview:
Operation GOODWOOD was beginning to falter. Major General Sir Allen Shafto Adair's Guards Armoured Division wa now going into its first major engagement of the war. The Grenadier Guards had attacked and seized Gany, sustaining heavy tank casualties in the process. Brigadier Sir Norman Wilmshurst Gwatkin now directed Lieutenant-Colonel Ririd Myddelton (commanding the Coldstream Guards) to attack southeast along the Cagny-Airan road to seize Vimont. Just south of Frénouville, the Coldstream's tanks ran into the 12th SS Panzer Division Kampfgruppe Waldmüeller which was defending astride the road north of Vinmont with infantry and some newly arrived Jagdpanzer IVs laying in ambush.Attacker: British (1st (Armoured) Battalion Coldstream Guards, 5th Armoured Brigade, Guards Armoured Division)
