Overview:

After landing in the second wave at Omaha Beach, the 115th Infantry Regiment of the 29th Infantry Division would spend the next six weeks fighting in the deadly hedgerows of Normandy toward the Corps objective of St. Lô and its vital road network. After weeks of hard fighting battling elements of Fallschirmjäger-Division 3, Major Glover S. Johns was ordered to attack with his 1st Battalion on the morning of 18 July down the Isigny-St. Lô road towards the outskirts of St. Lô. As they neared the edge of the city, they would be reinforced by elements of General Norman Cota's Task Force C, and the long-awaited battle for St. Lô would begin.
