Overview:

On D+1 of Operation HUSKY, the British 5th Infantry Division was pushing inland to expand its beachhead and move towards Catania. Early in the morning, the 2nd Battalion Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) had established positions in Florida and were being reinforced by a squadron of Sherman tanks from the County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters). Just after dawn, Colonel Ronco's Gruppo Tattico Ronco launched a heavy counterattack with infantry supported by artillery and eighteen war booty R-35 tanks. Heavy fighting erupted as the R-35 tanks charged into the teeth on the British defenses at Florida.

2025-05-23(D) Richard Jenulis vs Maurizio Grassi Italian winChicago Open 2025 round 5. A Fanatic Italian HS and Hero. Fun game. Maurizio played the Italians very well. His one legged Hero made a difference.
2024-12-09(A) Simon Staniforth vs Ian Morris Italian winOn the face of it this looks like it should be a British win all day long with the Italians being ELR 0 and tanks that are thoroughly outclassed. However, there are plenty of both and the Italian force consists of troops with a standard morale no worse than any other Nationalities First Line infantry. Sure plenty of Conscripts appeared throughout the game so you need to pass a few PMCs but taking 2 of the 5 multi-hex buildings and having 3 tanks in action at the end of the game is enough to win (7VP vs 6). So that was the plan. Feint attacks against other buildings to keep the British troops spread out and as the tanks can’t do much against the Shermans keeping them in Motion and spread out is a sound strategy (they are also small targets and the Sherman’s are Red TH#s in 1943). Many Italian casualties but they just had enough to hold on to the final building with a broken Conscript squad pinned leader retaining Control. I note to date zero playings on the Archive and ROAR but give it a go, more fun than you might expect
