Overview:

Day 2 of Operation Market Garden would see one of the worst moments for the 1st Parachute Brigade. Frost's 2nd PARA were holding the north end of the Arnhem bridge and awaiting reinforcements from the drop zones. First Parachute Brigade would make a valid attempt to reach the bridge and Frost's men. Advancing from Oosterbeek, the Red Devils would attempt to navigate the urban area bordering the Lower Rhine River and squeezed by high ground to the north. They would advance right into the concentric fire of SS Kampfgruppe Moeller, Gropp and Spindler. These SS Grenadiers and Pioneers would offer fierce resistance. To make a dire situation even more dreadful. the SS Reece Battalion 9 located south of the river in the Brickworks would direct heavy AA gunfire into the exposed right flank of the 1st and 3rd PARA.
Attacker: British (3rd PARA, 1st Parachute Brigade)
Defender: German (SS) (SS Kampfgruppe Spindler with SS Recce Battalion 9 and Assault Gun Brigade 280)
