Overview:
No. 30 Commando, also known as 30 Assault Unit, was a very specifically trained Commando unit whose purpose was to obtain and recover German intelligence. One of the key figures involved in the creation of 30 Assault Unit was Ian Fleming, future author of the James Bond novels. During D-Day, a section of No. 30 Commando landed with the Canadians at Juno Beach to capture a radar station, and another section landed with the Americans at Utah Beach to examine V1 launch sites.Attacker: British/American ((British) No. 30 Commando and (American) 2nd Battalion, 39th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division)
Defender: German (Infanterie-Division 709)

2024-10-08 | (D) Seumas Hoskins | vs | Dean | German win
2024-08-04 | (D) Bob McKenna | vs | Robert Kroczynski | British/American win | Germans held off attacks and broke US units. Germans exchanged fure with British. Germans slowly suffered casualties and tried to consolidate holding S4. Final assault and CC finds single British SMC gets into building and recovers needed files on last turn. Cool quick scenario.
2023-05-20 | (A) O Ramaille | vs | British/American win | The German were unable to withstand both allied pincer attacks wielding so much firepower. Dicey and average scenario.
2022-08-18 | (A) Dmitry Klyuykov | vs | Slava Zipunov | British/American win (VASL Log) | Great scenario, requiring quick risky movement from attackers because of time shortage. British paratroopers couldn't find the documents, but Allies were able to secure the HQ building.
2022-07-09 | (A) Jack Wilson | vs | Jim Liang | German win | Human Wave 2022 round 2 game. This is a very interesting scenario. A small British commando platoon (three squads and a 9-2 leader come in on the south edge of the board, while six American first line squads come in on the west edge. Thus, a natural pincer movement begins closing in on the one VC building. The Germans are out gunned in this one, but the Allies have only five turns to reach the objective. IMO, Jim played a flawless defense, and early on I did not see a path to victory. But suddenly he began to fail MCs, and I was passing them. I managed to get two Brits and the leader by his MG nest controlling the open ground and entered the VC building on turn 4. On the left, the Americans were able to steadily drive in the picket line, and by the end of turn 4 I was in striking distance on the final hex needed to control the VC building. But Jim made the most of his remaining defenders and staged a last-ditch effort at the threshold. Some sloppy tactics and lousy DR on my part kept me from completely capturing the building. The game came down to the SSR dr the Allies needed to win. A 1 or 2 would be a last-minute victory. Alas, I rolled a 5! C'est La vie! Jim played a masterful game and I picked up a couple of tactics for future use. |
