Overview:
The Soviets, desperate to relieve the siege of Leningrad, launched Operation SPARK along a narrow corridor south of Lake Lagoda. The German commander, Generaloberst Georg Lindemann, knowing the Soviets would be attacking, had his troops deployed and well entrenched. They were, however, thinly spread, with divisions covering ten miles of more. Lindemann repeatedly asked for reinforcements, but all that was available were three regiments from Infanterie-Division 96, a combat group from Gebirgsjäger-Division 5, and Kompanie 1 from schwere Panzer-Abteilung 502. This unit was equipped with the new heavy Tiger tank, whose whitewash paint was no help in navigating the wintry woods and swamps of the Leningrad front. The Soviets attacked at dawn with infantry supported by T-34’s and were about to overrun the Germans when the Tigers arrived.Attacker: Russian (136th and 268th Rifle Divisions with 61st Tank Brigade)
Defender: German (Infanterie-Regiment 284, Infanterie-Division 96 with Kompanie 1, schwere Panzer-Abteilung 502)

2022-12-10 | (A) O Ramaille | vs | Russian win | The Russians attacked with 2 infantry groups from North and South with the tanks on the center. With the help of the T-34's, the Russians surrounded the main German defenders and drove back the MG nests. The arrival of the Tigers changed things completely. One of them survived a shock hit on the turret and another was destroyed by a critical hit, but not before having destroyed 4 Russian tanks. The Russian infantry tried to cross the frozen swamp but were stopped either by the Tiger's MG or German reinforcements. A few Russians managed to exit this way though. On the South side, the Russian progressed through the woods and were finally able to exit just enough troops to get 9 VPs for the win. |
