Overview:

A war of attrition had descended upon the villages of Hatten and Rittershoffen in the French province of Alsace. German attempts to break through this sector and into the open plains beyond as part of Operation NORDWIND had been halted through the combined efforts of numerous American units. However, NORDWIND continued and German reinforcements in the form of an SS panzer division began to deploy to the south of Hatten seeking a breakthrough in that sector. German High Command wanted to ensure the American defenders in Hatten and Rittershoffen remained pinned down and not be available for redeployment. To this end, fresh Germans in the form of veteran infantry from Fallschirmjäger-Division 7 arrived and immediately went on the offensive.

2024-01-15(A) Vic Lauterbach vs RC American winI had the GIs and my setup had serious flaws which Robert's methodical attack exposed. I couldn't find useful positions for the 60 LMORs [no SSR per B23.8 so no rooftops] and two MMC in E14 were cut off and eliminated early. Two HS w/MMGs ready to move into the N7 and M12 steeples and keeping both M10s back to potentially ambush a Panther would have helped. Roberts 8ML infantry crashed through my upfront defense, the Panthers quickly took out my TDs and the victory buildings fell like dominos. In spite of it all, this was a fun scenario that offers both sides tactical options. The margin for error by the US player is small especially against a well-planned and well-executed attack like Robert's.
2022-07-04(D) Dave Mareske vs Dennis Dowd American winGermans have to push hard. I think the American setup forced the Germans to go a certain direction which game the Americans opportunities to counter, if only they could make a MC. Germans came up a few hexes short of victory in the end even with American poor morale.
2022-01-17(A) David Ramsey vs Martin Barker American win

(VASL Log)
Close but not close enough. The Germans couldn't push home a decent looking start. Full video replay on Illuminating Rounds 61.
2021-12-02(D) Andy Bagley vs Magnus Rimvall German winAnother close game decided in the last CC Phase, though the Germans were well ahead by then. Excellent balance of pace and aggression by the Germans, pressing forward steadily supported with very good tactical play. Low American morale failed to stand up against superior German firepower, and I couldn't keep enough units concealed to offset this. Might have been harder for him if a few DRs had gone my way, particularly the CC against a Panther that need 8 or less to kill (I failed), but overall an excellent and very enjoyable game.
