Overview:
The 9th Armored Division was tasked with helping close the Ruhr Pocket from the south. Leading the advance of 9th Armored Division, Combat Command B began its march at 0500 on the last day of March -- at 0903, the two leading Jeeps (“Peeps”) were hit and burned on the outskirts of Wethen, which then needed to be cleared. One armored infantry platoon rapidly deployed and moved into the town with assisting fire from tanks and tank destroyers.
