Overview:
2nd Battalion, 309th Infantry Regiment kicked off their attack on Kesternich on the morning of 14 December with E Company coming in mounted on a platoon of tanks from the 709th Tank Battalion. The 2nd's F Company followed the tanks, and G Company was held ins reserve outposted on a hill outside of town. The tanks soon became bogged down, and the soldiers of E Company dismounted, and headed for the village proper.
