Overview:
After a week of fighting, Operation Bagration had demolished the initial German defenses. and most objectives had been taken. The Russians were already committing forces to the subsequent objective of Minsk, and several armored forces were attacking to converge on Minsk from different sides. The 3rd Guards Mechanized Corps had penetrated deep to the west, and then turned south in an effort to encircle Minsk.
