Overview:
The Americans had sustained a couple of counterattacks with tanks from Hermann Goring Division on a ridge 2 km northeast from the crossroad, which they repulsed easily with help from naval and field artillery. in the first hours of the D+1 day, 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 16 RCT advanced again to the ridge in Abbio Priolo (also named Hill 41) and the buildings in Case Priolo, the 2nd on the left of the road and the 1st on the right. After a brief time they spotted a big column of German troops with tanks coming from Niscemi with the intention to push to retake the crossroad and drive straight to Gela.Attacker: German (Hermann Göring Panzer Division)
