Overview:
By 23 October the German 6th Army had secured Stalingrad’s tractor factory and gained a solid foothold in the Barrikady gun factory. Their conquest of the southernmost of the three factory complexes, the Krasny Oktyabr steel factory had not yet begun, however. Tasked with this unenviable job was Infanterie-Division 79, a collection of tough veterans. After a brief but intense bombardment of the enemy positions, the 79th’s assault troops, backed by Stukas and StuGs, were to advance in three well-defined steps. The attackers’ first objective was the railroad embankment just west of the factory.Attacker: German (Infanterie-Regiment 212 with Pionier-Bataillon 179 and Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung 244)
Defender: Russian (112th Guards Rifle Regiment and 48th Machine Gun Battalion, 39th Guards Rifle Division with Factory Militia Detachment)

2022-02-03 | (A) Kermit Mullins | vs | Dan Best | Russian win | My Germans successfully advanced to the railroad, but mines and wire had stalled my 8-3-8's in front of the J32 building. I lost both STUG's to the AT Guns, but both those crews would later die. The Stukas and OBA were ineffectual, but my 10-2 dominated the battlefield until the Sniper killed him on Turn 6. This would shatter my best kill stack and Dan's Russians would counter-attack back across the railroad and into the J25 building. In my last movement phase, I managed to get into position to close combat every Russian unit in the J25 and Hall 5 locations. This would be 6 Hand to Hand close combats. I would win 4 of these outright and be in Melee in one and lose another. That would keep the Russians in control of Building 5 for the win. | ||
