Overview:
In early August 1942, the Russian 20th and 31st Armies attacked the German defense lines south-eat of Rzhev and subsequently cut the important Zubtsov-Karmanovo road. On 6 August, 6th and 8th Tank Corps and 2nd Guards Cavalry Corps were introduced into the breach. German operational reserves were brought up to meet the threat. The 2. Panzer-Division moved northward from Karmonovo, meeting the exploiting Russian forces head on. On 10 August, 8th Tank Corps crashed into the 2. Panzer-Division's lines. At Yelnya, a new and hard-hitting German anti-tank gun, the 7.5 cm Panzerabwehr-Kanone 41, was used for the first time. The German defenses held, but the onslaught would continue the next day.Attacker: Russian (8th Tank Corps, 20th Army, Western Front)
