Overview:
By early July, German Army Group Centre was poised to attempt a second large encirclement battle, this time around Smolensk. A crossing of the Duna River was important for the drive to Vitebsk, which lay along the northern edge of the "land bridge" from Minsk through Smolensk to Moscow. A series of other minor river crossing was necessary to permit the rapid deployment and supply of mechanized forces. The retreating Soviets, however, had hastily destroyed many bridges over these minor rivers.Attacker: Russian (224th Strelkovy Division)

2016-01-23 | (D) Michael Dorosh | vs | Colin Emerson | German win | Playtest version. Deployed in the village with a mortar and one AT gun in the woods to the north. One AT gun and dummy stacks off to the west. Really did nothing during the first two turns as far as inflicting damage to the Russians. Got early entry of reinforcements and sealed the bridge crossing. Germans had some weaponry that seemed hard to utilize – AP ammo in the armoured cars, and the weak 37s. | ||

En of our playtest match - Russian had a tough slog, with a flooded stream to cross. Got to push my ATG down a road. didn't need it as my MGs did a good job defending the bridge crossing. (of16gameend.png) | Image | Michael Dorosh | 1248 |
