Overview:
The Russian village of Nikolskoje, of no importance except that it was occupied by the Soviet 32nd Cavalry Division, lay 180 miles south-west of Moscow. Major Gunter Pape was ordered to take Solojewka and Nikolskoje with his 3rd Motorcycle Recon Battalion, a battalion of Waffen SS motorized infantry, three tanks and an anti-tank platoon. Pape moved out at 0700 hours with the anti-tank platoon in the lead since the most likely threat was Soviet tanks. Quickly capturing Solojewka, which was being used as the cavalry headquarters, the survivors fled toward Nikolskoje; Papa pushed his forces quickly onward.Attacker: German (Kradschützen Abteilung 2, Panzer Division 3 and elements of SS Kampfgruppe Ostendorf)
