Overview:
After landing in Sicily as part of Operation ”Husky”, the 2nd Armored Division made a lazy western swing towards Palermo. By the 22nd of July they had made it past the city of Castelvetrano, which had just fallen into Allied control. The 2nd Armored Division was given the nickname “Kool Force” and was assigned to clear the way through San Guisseppe to Palermo. The 41st Infantry with support from the 66th Armored Regiment was leading the way. The force was ambushed by a German anti-tank unit armed with at least one 88mm gun, protected mostly by Italian infantry. After the dust settled from the initial shots, the American infantry moved in to silence the guns.Attacker: American (41st Infantry Regiment and 66th Armored Regiment, both of the 2nd Armored Division)
