Overview:
The New Zealand 4th Armored Brigade was advancing on the road between Giogoli and Galuzzo, toward Florence. Because the German 508th Heavy Tank Battalion was operating here, the area was known as "Tiger Country". As part of this operation, Major Clapham's B Squadron, 20th Battalion was to capture Giogoli then push on to clear Point 199. Traveling a short distance through an olive grove in his Sherman tank, Lt. Heptinstall encountered a German panzerschrek gunner lying prone near the road. With a deadly burst of .30 caliber fire, his bow gunner quickly dispersed of this threat, but soon they would be the first New Zealanders to face a Tiger tank.Attacker: New Zealand (6 Troop, B Squadron,20th Battalion, New Zealand 4th Armoured Brigade)
