Overview:

The morale of the Iraqi forces atop the Habbaniya escarpment finally cracked, as much from lack of water as from the relentless pounding by the ad-hoc air group based at RAF Habbaniya. By late morning on 6 May streams of Iraqi soldiers could be seen abandoning the heights. Many of these pathetic evacuees made their way to Sin el-Dhibban (literally -“Teeth of the Wolf”), a village east of the cantonment with a major ferry crossing over the Euphrates. Reconnaissance patrols over the previous days proved that the village was well-defended, and despite the collapse on the heights, the Iraqis defending the village showed no sign of panic. Units of the King’s Own, backed by armored cars and RAF Arab Levies, attacked the village at midday.
Attacker: British (Elements of B and D Companies, King's Own Royal Regiment and attached RAF Iraqi Levies)

2023-10-15(A) Rich Weiley vs Dave Wallace Iraqi win
2022-12-11(D) Marc Grad vs Ericzag Iraqi winBritish concentrated their forces in the center with a secondary attack on the Northern sector of the map with mortars situated on the road firing smoke at the buildings on the Iraqi right flank. Iraqi's tried to hold the center buildings on the Western side of the village but the British firepower and some effective encirclement close combats pushed the Iraqi's back. The 4 vehicles of the Armored car company worked there way through the Iraqi front line laying smoke when they could and doing some VBM. By the second turn the British had maneuvered on their right flank, below the Southern road as far as 3bCC4. An armored Car in the lead of some infantry wiped out an Iraqi half squad in a Sangar.

Farther North the Iraqi's lost a few squads but the 20mm AA gun was able to take out one of the lightly armored cars from it's HIP position in b3AA10 before the crew got KIAed when trying to manhandle the gun into a new position. Several British Squads protected by Smoke pushed up the building complex at 3bBB14 and wiped out some Iraqi conscripts, the survivors of which falling back to the last building closet to the bend in the Euphrates.

Another armored car got taken out by the 94mm Artillery gun that was sited at the end of the Southern road in hex 3bX2 and the British player started to struggle to get smoke placed to allow for protected movement across the street into the center of the village area. Still there was a fair bit of CC in the village. A lucky sniper and unlucky random selection roll DMed 2 full British squads slowed down the attackers and gave breathing space so the Iraqi's could consolidate. The defenders were losing men pretty quickly.

By the bottom of turn 4 the Iraqi's were on there heels, the Southern flank, weak at the start was pretty much gone. An Iraqi 8-1 with two squads were holding up the British from b3CC8 when the fighter bomber made an appearance and strafed the hex, DMing a squad that died in the rout phase due to interdiction. Things were a bit static until but by the last turn the British were sitting on 16 VPs. They were in reach of capturing the 8 remaining victory points they needed. Only some lousy morale dice by the doughty Brit, resulting in 4 pinned stacks, prevented the British from having the strength to capture all the buildings they needed. British forces ended up adjacent to the Steeple hex and the simultaneous destruction of both the defending Iraqis and the British assaulting troops in a bloody CC prevented the Brits from gaining the 3VPs hex at 3bBB15 prevented a British victory.

Very cool scenario. Kind of desert 'lite' terrain rules, coupled with alot of flavor. Iraqi's holed up in Sangars with American Lewis guns used as AA weapons and the Rolls Royce Armored cars added to an interesting narrative.
2014-11-09(A) Richard Carter vs Scott Holst Iraqi winI ran out of smoke early and had to try to assault over open ground. It did not go well. Though I also lost an AC to the sniper and a street ambush. I'd like to try again at some point
