Overview:

On 17 September the Germans were ordered to pull out of San Marino and the action moved further north, where the Indians fought the disastrous battle of Montecieco. Despite the losses, the Indians broke through the German lines in Sam Marino and at the same time, the Canadians crossed the Covignano Hill and the Marecchia River at San Martino in Riparotta, forcing the Germans to withdraw. On September 20th, following the Coriano battles, the Queen’s Bays were ordered to move up on the Via Roveta axis and capture Montecieco. The result was a disaster, and a successful German counter-attack was lid in to take back any and all gains earned with lost lives.
