Overview:

The occupation of the Groningen bulge made it possible for the British Second Army to drive into northern Germany. The Allied advance did not go smoothly. Small "stay-behind" forces resisted bitterly. One example occurred when the Canadian 4th Armored Division, advancing to cross the River Ems, tested the savage resistance the Wehrmacht was still able to offer. Flank elements of the Division, moving into the village of Friesoythe, encountered fierce opposition from a scratch group of students and German regulars who resolutely stood their ground in the face of the oncoming armor.

2025-04-07(A) Dave Mareske vs Paul WorksA Canadian winMy Canadians were fairly cautious and made steady progress towards the buildings. The AT guns were placed at the front edge of the town as well as the MTRs and though 3 tanks were lost to them they were then taken out. The MTRs were not an issues as tanks were able to roll up on them. A couple tanks fell to PFs, but with all the vehicles and a fairly high CVP cap the Canadians managed to stay under 50 at 41. Once the front line was broken the Canadians were able to press into the town, laying out SMK and winning a few key Close Combats to assure the victory. Paul did give me the balance seeing the disparity in the wins for the Canadians and having one more German conscript might have made a difference.

2022-03-12(A) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best German winCanadians hit the CVP cap on Turn 7 at the CC row on board 10 and that was game. Another one of these 10 turn beasts that you spend three turns just trying to get into the action. Seriously, can we stop doing that? Very tough on the British and if you're looking for a balanced game, this isn't it. A lot has to go right for the British and wrong for the Germans. In my case everything went wrong for the British and right for the Germans.
