Overview:

The 429th Regiment was ordered to move west from Kreida and attack the town of Staryi Gorod. The soldiers were tired after days of bitter fighting, but went straight from the march into the attack in the late afternoon. The primary attack focused on the southern edge of town, and the commander, Major Vollmary, ordered the 2nd Battalion to flank the town. Two companies then attacked from the west, heavily supported by mortar fire, and the battle intensified where death roamed freely.
