Overview:

The first Battle of Courland began just before first light on 27 October 1944 with a massive Soviet artillery barrage. Under protection of this mighty barrage, Soviet tanks and infantry brigades went to the attack. The main blow was directed against the 30th infantry Division, but soon the 4th and 14th Panzer Divisions were also under attack. By 29 October, the Russians had advanced across the Priezukrogs-Czezgaleskrogs road and were storming northwards. They were met by Oberfeldwebel Hermann Bix and his platoon of Panthers.

2022-01-29(D) Martí Cabré vs Joe Arthur German winThe Russian ART destroyed the first Panther wiht a same hex shot, but from there it all went down for the Russians, with the Germans deploying a Panther on the bridge behind the Russian lines after overruning several infantry. All Russian infantry was broken on Turn 2 allowing for the German infantry to reach the hill without danger. The Russian reinforcement tanks tried to move to destroy the Panther blocking the bridge but they were either bogged or destroyed by the Panther, so I conceded in Turn 2, with nothing else to do.
2021-10-24(A) Vic Lauterbach vs JM German winUnusual armored clash in very unfavorable terrain. (Rereading B10.52 surprised both of us!) The 76L got off two shot before its crew died in CC. I kept two Panthers on the front slope and sent two up and over to help clear off the Russian infantry. A tank traffic jam behind the hill slowed down Jim's counterattack and lack of ROF cost him in the ensuing tank battle. Russian infantry got a Panther in CCV and another was immobilized then killed by tank fire, but the other two were enough (combined with T-34 bogs and PF kills in the C4/D4 woods. In his post-game analysis, Jim said he should have gone with his first plan: send some T-34s through the A4 woods and risk the bogs to turn the German flank. Good 'heavy metal' fun!
2020-11-22(A) Dave Mareske vs Dennis Dowd German winLots of tanks in tight quarters. With most of the Russians set up on the hill the Germans were able to break most of them with MG fire. The Russian ART deliberately immobilized one of the Panthers, but then was eliminated. With the Germans keeping the press on the hill, they sent one Panther behind and through a line of Russian tanks only to get eliminated by a 122L hit on its turret. The Germans had a rough time finding PF. It came down to one Russian T-34 defending the level 2 hill. The last mobile Panther charged, the T-34 missed its immobilization to hit by one, Panther stopped, hit in bounding fire only to dud the TK roll! The Panther intensive fired and broke its MA. It still started again and moved into the T-34's hex. Infantry moved up, got into CC and won the hex and the game by getting an ATMM.
Great game Dennis!
