Overview:

In accordance with a combat order from headquarters, tanks of the 7th Independent Guards Heavy Tank Regiment occupied an all around defense at Telman sovkhoz (collective farm) and were prepared to fend off enemy tank attacks. This regiment was covering the withdrawal of units of the 17th Rifle Corps, which had fallen into semi-encirclement as a result of a German counteroffensive. During this battle Soviet tankers acted decisively and skillfully, not harboring any unfounded illusions regarding the training of the German tankers and the quality of their combat vehicles. Some 50 infantrymen and 2 antitank guns were set up in the defense around the tanks. The KV-85 of Senior Lieutenant Kuleshov was designated to liquidate the German infantry that penetrated the position. He started to fulfill this assignment with fire and tracks.

2026-01-18(D) Vic Lauterbach vs JM German winI drew the Soviets in this winter ambush, but surprise is impossible, so Jim's board 4 entry forced me into a long-range tank battle that favored his Tigers. I lost all five on-board tanks in two turns and just immobilized one Tiger (in 4B3, so it was out of the fight). Jim's Panzers dominated the tank battle. I never got off an A5 shot and my one H9 hit bounced off a Tiger's turret. Jim riddled my armored beasts with 88L and 75L AP. The 45LL ATGs put up a good fight until the 447 with them died then they were overrun. My plan was to hold two of the buildings around 43N8, but only the fortified one held out. Jim's assault force came through the 15+ hexes of brush almost unscathed (one broken 467) and supported by two Tigers and the PzIIINs blasted my defenders out (a CH rubbled one building). Jim: The German force has lots of firepower but not much time. Defense is light on infantry which helps. In our game, my shots landed early and often, so it went my way. A few misses, or hull hits vs. HD KVs/SUs and this one could have slipped away.
2022-07-06(A) Andy Bagley vs Neil Brunger German winReally interesting but tough scenario for both sides I reckon. Russians set up very solidly, with tanks in bypass behind walls of the village, so I decided a direct frontal assault wasn't the way - those Tigers can be vulnerable, particularly to APCR. Instead I tried a more stealthy approach, using lots of smoke and coming round the extreme East edge of Board 43, whilst other units made a 'left hook' through Board 4. I also pushed the AT Gun onto the board and used the Sdkfz 7 to carry infantry without towing; this worked well and allowed me to exit two MMCs early so I had to take only five buildings. Even so, the inevitable shoot-out between Tigers and the Russian heavies came soon enough, and I just about got the better of this exchange, with the last SU152 falling to a PF shot from an adjacent HS. Russians eventually conceded on Turn 6 when I was set to control six stone buildings and he couldn't stop two AFVs exiting the North edge. Very close and exciting.
2022-01-08(A) Dan Best vs Kermit Mullins German win
2022-01-08(D) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best German winDan's attack came in hard and fast at the village. I was rolling poorly and pinned a squad, but nothing else. In my PREP Fire, I managed to destroy a MKIV, but then Dan's MKIII's smoked me and he rushed the village. He had complete control of the village by Turn 4 and had wasted all my tanks and infantry. On the downside for Dan, he had MALF'd two Tigers and both would be recalled in dr 6 Repair attempts. My reinforcements moved into the position and waited for Dan's exiting armor. I managed to destroy 2 X Tigers and a MKIV. But Dan would exit the half-track and both MKIII's for the win. The MKIII"s were the unlikely heroes of the scenario.
