Overview:
The 3rd Armored was attacking to secure Cologne. Task Force Lovelady was assigned the mission of clearing the northern sector of the city all the way to the Rhine. In the industrial section of the city, the Americans encountered staunch resistance in the form of strong infantry positions supported by Nashorn tank destroyers. Task Force Lovelady included some new M-26 Pershing tanks from the U.S. Army Zebra Mission, which was conducting combat trials of the experimental tank.
