"They Fired on Odessa" - Since the end of July, Germans had reached the Crimea and the outskirts of Odessa. The Russians fought tooth and nail, but, day by day, the perimeter of their defense narrowed. Using their fleet on the Black Sea, the Soviet command decided to launch a counter-attack supported by a landing to the rear of the 9th Rumanian cavalry brigade.
