Overview:

On June 8th, SS-Obersturmfuhrer Rudolf von Ribbentrop arrived in Normandy with his Panzer Abteilung as part of the ttempt to bolster the German defenses. Ribbentrop's troops were immediately ordered into a night assault to relieve the 1st Battalion of SS-Panzergrenadier Regiment 26, which was believed to be holding the town of Bretteville and under intense attack by the Canadians. His Abteilung was joined by a reconnaissance company, and Kurt "Panzer" Meyer assumed overall command. The column passed the villages of Franqueville and Rots uneventfully, and pressed on toward Bretteville. Upon reaching the outskirts of the town, the two lead Panthers announced their arrival with a thunderous salvo. The salvo, an old Eastern Front trick, allowed the Germans to spread out into the village rapidly. For the Canadians, the attack became a desperate waking-nightmare.

2021-02-27(A) Michael Rodgers vs Bruno L'Archeveque German (SS) winTough on Canadians. The Germans can claim a lot of buildings outside of the Cdn setup area. Cdns need to be up high to lose NoMoves and avoid VBM lock.
2018-02-24(D) Scott Sherer vs Jeff B German (SS) winNight scenario in the city? With SS fighting Canadians? Sounded fun, but the scenario played out very poorly in my opinion. Jeff's Germans steamrolled my Canucks quite easily, as I conceded after Turn 6 (of 10) with the SS in possession of way more buildings than needed with no chance of a counterattack getting the needed buildings back. The Canadians only get 57L AT guns and PIATS, which don't seem to have a chance against the frontal armor of the Panthers. The only chance of killing them seems to be CC (if the German player is sloppy enough to get next to a infantry in a building without his own infantry support) or via a side/rear shot (again if a sloppy German player allows that to happen). In hindsight, I may have just tried to kill as many of the thinned-skinned vehicles as possible and let the Panthers have their way. Maybe setting up some HIP HS's in the upper levels of buildings in the front, and hope the Germans forget about them and they can run around and grab some buildings back in the rear? I am a very mediocre player (as my W/L record shows), but I have a hard time seeing how the Canadian wins this one unless they are the more experienced/better player playing against a weaker/less experienced German.
2018-02-24(A) Jeff B vs Scott Sherer German (SS) win9.5 hrsEntirely agree with Scott that this one looked much better on paper than it played. I envisioned, being a night scenario with such a large playing area and game length, a potential ability by the Canadians to counterattack and retake some of the buildings. In reality they just could not stand up to the steamrolling SS. The Canadians simply had no answer to all the AFVs the Germans threw at them, and this quickly became a VBM freeze-fest. When one side has no chance to stop the other it simply is not much fun, but Scott was a good sport as always and toughed it out as long as realistically possible.
