Field Marshal Model had continually demanded that the Arnhem Road Bridge be opened to allow reinforcements to move south to Nijmegen. Throughout the morning, the Germans had probed the British defenses searching for weak points. Convinced that infantry alone could not dislodge the British, Lt.
