Overview:

The French 6th Senegalese Marine Mixed Infantry Regiment was deployed along one of the roads leading to Sommauthe, in the vicinity of Stonne. At 1500, the 1st Battalion was harassed by artillery and Stukas, and thirty minutes later, several German companies launched a powerful attack in order to seize the hill behind their positions, and lead the way to the south. Overwhelmed, the defenders called for artillery support, but it was not available. Only the heavy weapons platoon of 2nd Lieutenant Deschenes was able to support the 2nd Company. Firing with all its means, more than 80,000 rounds, it cut down dozens of assaulting Landser. . . at the same time, German reinforcements were pushed forward, and a company of the neighboring 5th RICMS joined the beleaguered French defenders.
