The final stages of OPERATION DRAGOON saw the U.S. 3rd and 45th Infantry Divisions inexorably pushing the remnants of Army Group G up the Rhone Valley toward the Alps. The Aufklärungs Abteilung (reconnaissance battalion) of the 11th Panzer Division fanned out to thwart the advance of the approaching Americans. The U.S. 117th Cavalry Squadron was the sole mobile unit north of Grenoble. The troopers doggedly kept the pressure on the retreating Germans and fought several sharp engagements with 11th Panzer, trying to pierce its flanks. The two recon units collided southeast of Lyon at the town of Voiron.

Great game with Chuck. We approached each other cautiously until all our forces were on board on Turn 3 before going at it full force. Chuck had an armored car slightly forward of his infantry, so I went after it with both M8 armored cars. The first missed, and the second malf'd its MA, requiring me to bring up the TD (with my armor leader), which managed to hit and destroy it.
Even so, Turn 4 was looking tough as Chuck came at me with his best infantry (548, LMG, 9-2) to set himself up for street fighting against one of my armored cars, which was still buttoned up due to having failed an IFT MC in the previous turn. Chuck then maneuvered his armed halftracks to try to cover the main victory locations in the road junction, but one of them stopped in the LOS of my TD which scored a low-probability hit on a '4', destroying it. In attempt to set himself up for a kill shot on my light tank, Chuck brought up his second armored car. Knowing I had to destroy it, I took a chance eating the backblast from a bazooka, needing a '5' to hit. I'm glad I did, since the shot (a '4') would have missed otherwise. The squad survived the 2 check easily enough but the armored car crew did not survive the attack.
Having already malf'd the MA on his Marder, Chuck had enough of my hot dice at that point and conceded. Can't say I blame him. Overall I give the Americans the edge since their vehicles are qualitatively better, in my opinion. Fun game with a great opponent!

This is a fun scenario, but it seems the Americans have an edge due to superior AFVs and squad FP.
That being said, it is a cool meeting engagement that builds over the first three turns as each side can only enter 3 AFVs per turn (for a total 9 AFVs each). (I think the first 3 turns took maybe 30 minutes to play.)
What develops is a tense firefight in the middle of the village with opposing AFVs maneuvering to take the first shots and infantry hopping house to house. There is a sudden death CVP cap in place for both sides, and victory is by VPs scored for the central square and some buildings nearby.
As the Germans, going second per the at-start die roll, I tried to get the 9-2 next to the VP locations and control the square with the Marder. That worked ok, but I decided to do an early push with the ACs on my Turn 4 as I thought I had the Chaffee a bit isolated. The Chaffee responded with ROF. I should have been more patient, and waited for the Amis to come to me. I ended up losing on CVP in second half of Turn 5.
I would play this again.

American win
An unusual and fun scenario - a meeting engagement with both sides coming on from off-board, with SSRs so that whichever side comes on first (random DR) can't immediately establish a dominant position. The result is hard close-range fighting around the village centre with plenty of Smoke and WP. Thanks to American firepower, I managed to push forward just far enough to take most of the victory buildings plus the central "village square" in my last APh.

Very interesting engagement scenario, though I think the advantage might go to the side that moves first. Both sides met in the village and were reluctant to move into LOS of opposing guns...if they did, they were quickly eliminated. A large Melee loomed for several turns in the village which the Americans won partially. This exceeded the CVP cap for the Germans at the end of Turn 5, with the Americans sitting at 18 CVP lost. Close game. Be careful not to loose too many halftracks as they add up.
