The 1st Canadian Infantry Brigade, led by the 48th Highlanders of Canada, launched Operation Morning Glory, a meticulously planned assault to penetrate the German defenses near Ortona. Employing the "Y" formation under a heavy artillery barrage, the Highlanders navigated through devasted orchards and vineyards, successfully capturing the strategic Villa Grande Road junction, marking a significant advance in the campaign to secure Ortona.
Attacker: Canadian (48th Highlanders, 1st Canadian Infantry Brigade)
Defender: German (III.Batalion, Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 3)
Steve decided to push up the middle with his barrage and his troops. This avoided the mines, but this will be tough for the Canucks if the guns are allowed unmolested overwatch. And that's exactly what this allowed, with a squad blown to bits in the woods by a mortar shot. Turn 2 saw the Canucks be held up by one of the MG nest FLs, as well as their own barrage, and a Sherman was knocked out trying to swing around behind cover of the eastern woods. Turn 3 the barrage jumped right over the PB. With fanaticism saving me from cowering more than once it would be tough to pass. But one of the German mortars overheated for good. Turn 4 saw the Canuck attack shift increasingly east, but as long as they were stuck down on the plains they were of little threat. Turn 5 saw the PB crew finally succumb to a casualty MC, but by this time most of the Canucks had already passed them by, and another Sherman was fried navigating the eastern road. With the barrage rolling on ahead, and still in total control of the heights, the German reinforcements were able to move up and man the hedgerow. The Canucks read the writing on the wall and spent Turn 6 pulling back and hiding, and the Germans accepted their concession with the CVP count 18-4 in their favor. With the game victory this gave them an opening round score of 8-0.

German win
Canadians came up the middle avoiding the wire on the board edge and the Germans were ready for them. AT guns took out four tanks and the MMG had some impressive ROF which kept the Canadians broken. When the fifth tank immobilized in some mines Dan conceded not having enough points to exit. The Creeping Barrage was interesting but had little effect.
