Bataan Peninsula, Philippines 1942-02-02 (1 other)

Overview:

On the 27th of January, the 600 Japanese soldiers of Colonel Tsunehiro's 2nd Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, landed on the west coast of the Bataan Peninsula, in an area measuring 800m x 800m. It was one of the three landings executed in this area by the 20th I.R. Facing them were 550 men of various ill-trained Philippine Army units and the 500 men of 3rd Battalion, 45th Infantry Regiment (Philippine Scouts). They were later reinforced by Company B, 57th Infantry (P.S.). These units tried several times to push the Japanese into the sea, but the enemy used the dense jungle well for their defense and the progression was only several dozen meters per day. On the 2nd of February with the aid of tanks and with machineguns providing long-range supporting fire, another try was made under the eyes of General Weaver.
