Overview:
Longstanding enmity between the Baltic States and the Soviet Union worsened after those states were annexed by the USSR prior to World War 2. After the Soviets "liberated" the Baltic States from the Germans in 1944, they began a concerted effort to repress the population and hunt down partisans. Known locally as the "Forest Brothers", the Lithuanian Partisans (LLA) gave the Soviets a difficult time, so in August the 4th NKVD Division was brought in to quell the problem. By the spring of 1945, the problem was out of control, and additional NKVD units were called upon to help, including the 220th Border Regiment. In the Alyrus District, the NKVD had received reports of a group of LLA "bandits" operating near Simnas in the Kalniske Forest. The 220th NKVD Border Regiment was ordered to liquidate them, and the surrounded the partisans on a hill in the forest. The well-armed LLA partisans occupied a strong position on the hill.Attacker: Russian ("Order of Kutuzov" 220th NKVD Border Regiment)

2025-03-16 | (D) Vic Lauterbach | vs | Trevor P. | Russian win | This one is about getting fire on NKVD squads in OG. I expected Trevor to attack from the West, but he came on the East and South edges. Shifting partisan squads to meet the attack put them in pine woods hexes without foxholes. Generally, my 7-ML squads broke under fire, and Trevor's 8-ML squads didn't. Stacks of 628s at PB range were too much for the defenders. E4 was the wrong spot for my HIP 9-1 and 447 w/HMG because of no LOS until a bunch of NKVD squads moved ADJACENT. There isn't much OG, so every partisan shot has to count. I missed too many, and Trevor played well! Good game overall. They're fun and play quick, so we agreed that the scenario on a card format has great potential!

2024-03-01 | (A) Shane Pask | vs | Russian win | I had heard that the PK scenarios were poorly balanced but was spending a week in a hotel room so packed them to play solo on the trip. Russian numbers overwhelm the Lithuanians. Lithuanians may have had a chance but 2 MG failed including the HMG. Booby traps scored 2 HS and the T26 did nothing. In the end every single partisan was killed or surrendered.
