Overview:
During the first part of the battle of Shanghai, the Nationalist Army made every effort to disloge the Japanese from the centre of Shanghai. General Zhang Zhizhong decided to use the 36th and the 87th Division to break through the enemy lines and reach the docks on the north bank of the Huangpu, literally throwing the enemy in the river. The Japaneses, better equipped and ready to resist at all costs, formed an urban fortification belt with bunkers, hidden guns, and trenches to absorb the impact of the assault.Attacker: Chinese (87th Division and 36th Division with the Peace Preservation Corps)
