Overview:
After having relieved the Americans and reconnaissance units surrounding Vernon, the 5th Wiltshire Regiment of the British 43rd division had carefully moved its units through the crowded streets full of celebrating French citizens. The Germans, who had withdrawn across the river several days before, appeared oblivious to the fresh arrival of British soldiers. The British commanders assembled their assault groups and concealed themselves as much as they could while assembling near the banks of the Seine in the shadow of both destroyed bridges.Attacker: British (A/5th Wiltshire Battalion, 129th Infantry Brigade, 43rd Wessex Division and elements of 8th Middlesex MG Battalion, 94th Field Artillery Regiment and 15/19th Hussars)
