Overview:

The initial follow-up to secure Momote airdrome included the investment of the western shore of Seeadler Harbor, where Japanese command had expected the initial attack. A still disorganized Japanese command provided the opportunity for Brewer Task Force to secure the plantation on western Los Negros before moving on to Maaus Island. To that end, 2nd Squadron of the 12th Cavalry Regiment (whose motto was Semper Paratus, or "Always Ready") was sent across the mile of open harbor using every available watercraft, from the handful of LCPs to DUKWs to makeshift rafts. The 2nd Squadron did not begin its movement until the afternoon of 7 March,. and by evening only G Troop had landed near the objective.
