Overview:

The weeks-long struggle for Massa on the coastal plains of northwest Italy brought to the forefront longstanding issues of ill trust and poor morale throughout the 92nd Infantry Division, the only African-American Infantry Division to see combat in World War II. After Massa, the 92nd was responsible for the 20-mile wide line from the sea to Barga in Serchio Valley. The Buffalo Soldiers of the 370th Infantry Regiment conducted powerful patrols into the Tuscan hills, probing deeper into the Serchio. On 16 November, a reinforced company attacked fortified positions outside Eglio. This area of the Gothic Line was defended by Germans and German-trained Italians. Both the Monte Rosa Alpini Division and the San Marco Marine Infantry Division had been formed, equipped, and trained in Germany from ex-Italian military and northern Italian conscripts.

Errata (source)
not really errata, but some advice I gave to playtesters hope it helps to enjoy the scenario.
1) dummies can pretend to be leaders, go CX, etc. etc.; 2) building + wood terrain A.24 and example in A4.31 it costs 4MF to enter, 2 MF to Bypass and has TEM +3 (+2 building and +1 woods) advancing into it will probably make you CX in advance phase or is going to lose your concealment if you skulk into it; 3) path is not a road, so no road bonus; 4) attacker sees trenches and PFZ; 5) game turn end is when the defender finish his turn, so italians have always the possibility to counter attack and denies victory to americans, it's not enough to take the buildings you have to keep them till the end of the turn. 2025-11-15(A) Tripp Killin vs Ramond McCusker American win2 hrsMy Americans pushed hard on our right, with 9 squads east of the Stream. [The Stream (B20) exists in this scenario, as the SSR only replaces Water Obstacles (B21).] I had 3 squads and all the Dummies in the center, and 2.5 squads on the left. Left flank was to threaten the 3 buildings on/at the hill, and the center was to keep German forces from reacting to my right.

The scenario has variable VC, with the game ending as early as Turn 4 if the Americans can take and hold 4 buildings. The German 4.5 at-start squads were stretched thin across the length of board 86, and I fell on them pretty hard.

On the right, I pushed very hard. American's broke as usual, but I found the mined buildings via Search, and was able to advance in capture safely. My Turn 4 was a rush for buildings, and I got two on the hill and three in the village on the right. The Germans were unable to take any back and the game ended.

The Germans have a lot of ground to defend until their reinforcements arrive. Making good use of the MGs and Fire Lanes is essential. The Americans do have a lot of Open Ground to cover on board 86 and only morale 6 . But poor Ray rolled doubles to Cower. Two of those meant half his defenders were marked Final Fired very early in my Turn 4 movement phase, allowing me to sprint forward to capture buildings.
2025-08-24(A) Vic Lauterbach vs RV Italian/German winI took the GIs in this late Italian campaign fight and found it very tough going vs. Renato's well-planned defense. I went for the near pair of buildings with 2/3 of my force and sent a platoon toward the buildings on Renato's left. Taking the fortified building took too long, and Axis fire reduced by force to stacks of DM MMC. Lack of any -1 leaders really hurts the GIs. Fun scenario though that recreates the challenges facing the Buffalo Division well.
2025-02-09(A) S. Slunt vs nathan Stapf American winThe Vasl League Round 1 2025
2024-11-11(D) Andy Bagley vs Josh Kalman American winA very short game due to my completely screwing up the defence. I attempted to compensate for shortage of numbers on the defence by keeping some guys in reserve in the centre to respond to whichever side the Americans attacked. However, they attacked on a broad front, and my reserves "jumped" too early, only to realise that they were then cut off by an American fire lane from switching to the other side. As a result, the Americans overwhelmed my few defenders in the west and easily had the game won by Turn 4.
2024-10-13(A) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best Italian/German win1.5 hrsMy Americans managed to get 3 buildings by Turn 4, but by Turn 5, I was breaking left and right and the writing was on the wall. So I gave the concession and went to watch some football. Glad the Roma pack is done.
