Reworking of "Katukov Turns the Tables".. . As Operation Typhoon began on September 30, the panzers seemed to have everything their way once more. Yeremenko flung depleted tank brigades in isolated counterattacks against Gudetanks and seven KV models further bolstered the hitting power of the unit. The 4th Tank Brigade’s commander, Col. Katukov, an armor leader of above average skill, mounted a more serious affair on the 11th which was to pose a serious threat to the strung out flank of the 4th Panzer as its men were struggling to enter Mtsensk along the muddy and shell-cratered roads southeast of the town.Attacker: German (Reconnaissance elements of the 3rd Battalion, 26th Regiment)
