Overview:

On March 9, 1945, after 4 years of occupying Indochina, the Japanese launched a surprise attack on the French garrisons still stationed there. Caught completely unaware, most French units were captured and destroyed in quick disorganized fights. Despite the general staff’s lack of organization, small groups managed to evade destruction and joined up at prepared rally points in the jungle, which had been readied by Force 136, French “Jedburgh” Commandos, trained in India and sent to Indochina for such an eventuality. From there, the mismatched French units decide to withdraw to neighboring and friendly China, before thinking of continuing the fight. By mid-March, three columns, totaling 5,000 troops started marching towards the border, under the command of Colonels Capponi and Seguin and Commander Lepage.

2022-12-21(D) Richard Jenulis vs Dennis Hess Viet Minh winI love esoteric scenarios. But I'm not sure how the French win this one. The French attached along the West side of their allowable entry hexes. The Viet Minh defended the broad front hoping to fall back to secondary positions. Heavy rains and a hyper snipper (who took out the 9-1) slowed the French down. I was nearly able to surround the French who just barely were able to get a few MMC onto board 36, but nowhere near exiting. The Viet Minh only took a 7-0 leader (1-4 CC), and a HS (failure to rout) as the sole losses. It was Little Big Horn in Indochina.
2020-09-16(A) Dave Mareske vs Dennis Dowd French winThis was a fun scenario that involved a lot of movement, staying concealed, setting up kill zones and some choice close combat. It did not help the defense that it started raining on turn 1 and heavy rain by turn 2, which lasted the whole game. The extra +1 helped the French move mostly unhindered up the east side. It still took them the whole game, but managed to get all three guns off and enough infantry for the win.
