A patrol of Jaeger Division 100 managed to reach the west bank of the Volga following a saturation bombardment of Russian positions. The Germans soon found themselves cut off as Red Army soldiers re-emerged from their rubble hideouts after allowing the German detachment to pass. Back in the factory complex, Lt. Wilhelm Kreiser received orders to break through to his stranded companions before their rescue became impossible. . .
Attacker: German (Stranded elements of Jaeger Division 100)
The Russian setup was fundamentally flawed giving the Germans a nearly clear route for the stranded units to escape. Add to that the Russians neglected to take a critical DFF shot with the MMG, and the Germans had an open road. However, the Germans were cautious allowing the Russians a small window of opportunity to block the escape. With a couple well timed good rolls, the Russians were able to press the attackers. However, it was not enough to overcome the initial setup. Russians conceded on Turn 6.

An interesting scenario. From the beginning to the end, nothing (IFT, MC) worked for the Germans whereas almost everything worked for the Russians . This added to the reinforcement entering on turn 3 and finally the Russian player won before the last turn !

This is an interesting game. The Russians have to prevent the surrounded Germans from escaping while also stopping the German relief force. Being my first time playing a RB scenario, the terrain took some getting used to. John played pretty conservatively as the attacking Germans, letting his kill stacks do their work. Turns out I didn't have the LOS I thought I did and my setup was sub-optimal. Believing he'd try an end run I had garrisoned my flanks too strongly and instead he came right through the center (similar to the mistake Matias made, below). The SSR preventing freedom of movement for the Russians hobbled my response, my reinforcements came on too late to make much of a difference, and it was basically over by the end of Turn 5. My analysis of it is the Russians have to set up basically on a north-south line and hope it holds as their setup restrictions prevent a defense in depth, while the German has only enough time for an up-the-middle attack.

Germans held back a little, it cost them time. One of the VP Squads went Berserk (not good for the Germans). Russian sniper did very little until it killed the one of the VP Ldrs. A couple scary HtH melees and that the Russians came out on the slightly better end of and it was kinda a rough time after that for the Germans. The split force set up hurt the Germans as well and they waited too long to start shooting at my spotters on a rooftop. Still fun though
