Overview:
After war was declared on 10 June 1940, the first exchange of fire between the Alpini and the Chasseurs Alpins on the Queyras Valley took place on 15 June. Following a series of small skirmishes with the Sections d’Eclaireurs à Ski (S.E.S.), the 3° Alpini Regiment approached Abriès where Lt. Col. Martin’s Diables Bleus (87° B.C.A.) had been ordered to hold the village for 48 hours. . .if possible.Attacker: Italian (Elements of the 29 Compania, Battaglione "Fenestrelle", 3 Regimento Alpini and elements of the CCNN de Torino)
